Scored Discussion – The Social Studies Department of Montgomery High School in Skillman, NJ have made student-led discussion a routine part their classes. The discussion rubric, based on the Common Core Speaking and Listening Standards, has propelled student’s speaking and listening skills. This initiative has resulted in greater authentic engagement, improved achievement, and an enhanced appreciation for the social sciences. The remarkably high average AP test score for AP US History II is largely attributed to the discussion model used in the class.
