Richie Malizia, a school attendance officer from Union City, received the prestigious National Education Association Outstanding Educational Support Personnel (ESP) for the Year 2000. This national recognition was given in part for his efforts to keep kids in school through the use of a school team that identifies problems early, before the child drops out of school.
