Fifth- and sixth-grade students at the Shady Lane School in Westville (Deptford Twp.) are learning several lessons from a quilting project. They learn the basics of sewing, write journals, tell stories, and learn how to follow directions. They also learn about compassion for others. Once they have completed their quilts, they donate them to children at a local hospital. This program was funded through an NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation grant.
