NJEA’s television show Classroom Close-up NJ won its 15th Emmy during the 34th Annual Mid-Atlantic Gala.
The show won in the Education/School – News Single story category for its coverage of the 2015 NJEA Convention. The story featured Jon Bergmann, one of the pioneers of the flipped classroom movement. Bergmann’s presentation encourages teachers to think differently about teaching. Imagine flipping a classroom so that students watch recorded lectures at home and do their homework during class.

NJEA Vice President and host of the show Marie Blistan expressed her pride in receiving another Emmy. “This story is just one example of the innovative ideas that New Jersey educators can learn about when they attend the NJEA Convention.”
Five other stories were nominated for an Emmy. They are: What’s at Stake, Day School, Autism Continuum, Green Technology and Makerspace.
During the evening, students from Sterling and Absegami High School volunteered to raise money for the high school scholarship program. The winner of this year’s scholarship Lexi Fiore from Sterling High School helped raise over $1,600. Absegami Media teacher Michael Piotrowski said it was a night his students will never forget!
